Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit describes the skills required to communicate effectively with people who have mental health problems/conditions.This unit applies to those working in a custodial or community correctional services context who are responsible for the supervision of people with a mental health problem and/or condition. With contextualisation this unit may apply to those working in other environments.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those related to interaction with offenders and use of support services.Those undertaking this unit work independently using support from mostly familiar resources. The role involves routine tasks with a number of familiar and less familiar steps.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. This unit contains a wide range of variables to reflect the diverse nature of supervision of offenders with mental health conditions or problems. Selection from the range of variables will reflect the specific requirements of the work site and the defined work role. Valid assessment of this unit requires a workplace environment or one that closely resembles normal work practice and replicates the range of conditions likely to be encountered by an individual responsible for supervising offenders as part of a coordinated team, including coping with difficulties, irregularities and changes to routine. Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors. |
